Christ-like Leadership
We seek to develop that is God-honoring leadership in all students in their areas of strength.
• Student council for grades 7 – 12 is a student-led organization facilitating student activities and community service work.
• Three secondary students represent Lakewood on VOICE, the youth philanthropy arm of the DeKalb Community Foundation.
• Members of the Timothy Chapter of the National Honor Society are involved in a year-long service project.
• Juniors and seniors participate in a fall retreat in Michigan where the focus is on leadership and team building.
• Prayer by parents, teachers, and students is a significant factor in shaping the lives of the students.
• Lakewood is sensitive to the unique gifts and the individual plan God has for each student. We seek to design teaching strategies and instructional environments appropriate to each student.
• Lakewood employs a school-wide, biblically-based model for teaching study skills. The Study Smarts principles cover self-worth, motivation, organizational tools, note taking, memory techniques, concentration strategies, eliminating procrastination, time management, goal setting, reading strategies, learning styles, test preparation, and more.
• Each spring a number of students with a variety of gifts and talents put on a school play. (2004 cast shown above.)
