2nd Grade
Second grade is an exciting year of application of skills acquired in the earlier elementary years. Necessary basic skills in reading (decoding and comprehension), writing, spelling, and math are taught, emphasized, and reviewed. Reading and historical studies are frequently integrated as we develop a historical timeline of important events to begin the foundation and understanding of a Christian worldview. Bible instruction includes both Old and New Testament studies that focus on our God of freedom. Second graders also learn and begin to write in cursive.
It is our desire to challenge our students academically as we build a foundation for understanding their world and how to live in it. Books, various forms of media, games, projects, and guest speakers are utilized to teach and extend the curriculum.
Students meet weekly for a chapel service which includes singing, mission stories, Bible lessons, object lessons, and guest speakers to encourage them spiritually. Offering is collected weekly to allow students the opportunity to participate in a project supporting a specific missionary work or ministry.
Students also have service opportunities which vary year to year. This may include nursing home visits, writing projects, cross-age reading, and other activities that engage students in the acting out of their knowledge and faith in God’s Word.

Mrs. Linda Weaver
I became a Christian when I was eight years old. I graduated in 1985 from Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee, with a BA in Church Recreation. I received a Master of Religious Education in 1987 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. I was a teacher's aide here at LPCS for five years. In 2005, I taught first grade at First Christian Academy in Kendallville. I am very thankful that the Lord has given me the opportunity to teach 2nd Grade at Lakewood Park. Watching God work in the lives of young children is an awesome experience.
My husband, Bill Weaver, teaches high school history at LPCS. Our four children have attended school here since 1999. It is great to see how Lakewood Park has grown and changed during this time. It is wonderful to teach the 2nd Grade students, and I love being a part of this amazing team of teachers, administrators, and support staff.
