6th Grade

The sixth grade at Lakewood is full of exciting challenges. Students are transitioning physically, academically, emotionally, and spiritually.  In all of these aspects, we give students opportunities for growth. Academically, we strive for turning in work on time that reflects the best of each student’s abilities. We really work on developing responsible, integrity-filled learners. In addition, we strive for students who treat themselves, teachers, and one another with respect because God’s character is respectful. Respecting others occasionally involves a service project such as our Christmas bazaar to raise money for needy families, as well as giving to our chapel offerings or other collections. Finally, we are excited to help students transition from having the faith of their families to embracing a faith of their own. We accomplish this through weekly chapel, daily prayer times, class devotions, Bible class, memorizing God’s word, and applying Scripture to real-life situations. Our goal is to help students be Christ-like leaders to their classmates and others in their sphere of influence.

Field Trips

Several field trips during the sixth grade year include:
• Matea Park to study nature in a beautiful setting
• MacMillen Health Center to learn about God’s design for boys and girls

6th Grade Teachers

Mr. Bob Anderson
I actually grew up in this vicinity and graduated from Garrett High School. That summer I experienced a tragic farm chemical accident, which eventually brought me to yield my blind eyes and heart to Jesus Christ. I was then led by “Amazing Grace” to attend Purdue University, graduate from Huntington College with a degree in elementary education, and complete my Master’s degree at St. Francis University. I married Kay and we have three beautiful daughters and nine precious grandchildren.

My teaching career began at Leo Elementary as a sixth grade teacher in 1964 and I was there until 2000, when I left because of family health problems. During those 36 years, I coached numerous sports, served as the youth pastor at Hopewell Brethren Church and, more recently, as the Minister of Counseling at Grabill Missionary Church. I enjoyed the opportunities during my professional career at EACS and especially the honor of serving Jesus Christ in that domain. In 1982, He blessed me as a finalist in the Indiana Teacher of the Year competition. God is truly good!

After giving attention to the family health concerns, and seeing God resolve the problem, I was free to become a sixth grade teacher at Lakewood Park Christian School. It is such a joy to team up with Lauri Carnahan, a former students and fellow servant of Christ. I feel that I am now truly involved in educating the entire student: spiritual (the Bible), mental (academics), social (fellowship), and emotional (healing). This is a wonderful place dedicated to discipling hearts and minds. I trusted God to heal my sight for the future, and I’m trusting Him now to continue using me in His Kingdom. May He influence us all as we serve in His Kingdom.

  Mrs. Lauri Carnahan
I accepted Christ’s salvation for my life in the second grade. After graduating from Leo High School, I attended Anderson University for two years, and Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne for my final two years, graduating with honors with a B.S. degree in elementary education.

I married my high school sweetheart, David, and after teaching third grade in Fort Wayne at Price Elementary for one year, I had my oldest daughter Megan. Wanting to stay at home with my daughter, I quit the teaching profession temporarily. My second daughter Logan was born, followed by two more daughters, Jensen and Brittan. As a stay-at-home mom, I enjoyed being involved in several ministries at Grabill Missionary Church, including directing children’s musicals and Vacation Bible School, singing in the choir and on the Praise Team, leading women’s Bible studies, participating in short term mission’s trips, and contributing to the Christian Education Committee.

Knowing my youngest daughter was to enter school, I felt the strong desire to find a ministry that would allow me to serve God, yet allow some flexibility with my daughters. Since all four girls attended Lakewood Park Christian School, I decided to explore the possibilities of returning to the teaching profession. In 2000, I was hired to teach sixth grade with my former sixth grade teacher and friend, Bob Anderson. Along with teaching, I also hope to influence students’ lives through coaching.

By being a role model, striving for excellence, and teaching skills, knowledge, and wisdom, I hope to influence many young lives to desire a deeper walk with Christ.
