Jog-A-Thon 2009
Friday was our kick-off assembly for our annual Jog-a-Thon fundraiser. This will be the sixth year for this exciting fundraising event. The goal for the Jog-a-Thon is to not only raise funds, but to increase community among the school families through the carnival that is held on the day of the Jog-a-Thon. It is awesome to see the number of parents that show up to participate with their students, both in the marathon and in the carnival games.

Your students are bringing home packets today to get started on this fun event. Enclosed with that information are four sponsorship forms. Elementary students are asked to submit one form each Thursday leading up to the event. The elementary classes will be having contest with incentives based on the pledges received for the week. Please look over all the packet with your students for more information.

We need many volunteers to make this event a success. We have a wonderful team of volunteers that actually plan and coordinate the entire event. We simply look for volunteers that are willing to help sell tickets or run games at the carnival, or help with concessions or even help with the set-up and clean-up. If you are interested in helping, please contact Julie Hess @ jhess@lakewoodpark.org or by calling 925-1393 Ext. 236.

The Entertainment books are here!
The Fine Arts Department will be selling Entertainment Books again this fall.  These books contain money-saving coupons to area restaurants, stores and services - many up to half
off  - with a savings of over $560 from area businesses.  In addition, the books also contain four $5-off cards to Mi Casita, Crazy Pins, TGI Fridays and Steak and Shake.  Other regional books can be ordered as well.  The cost is $25 and the books can be purchased from any high school band or choir member or from the school front office August 25 - September 8.  Save money on your local purchases and help support the Fine Arts Department as well.

Destination: Book Fair
Our book fair theme for 2009 is "Destination: Book Fair" and will take place on October 26 - 30 in the auxiliary gym.  Dave and Neta Jackson, authors of the Trailblazers series and the Yadda Yadda Prayer Group series, will be our guest authors on Thursday, October 29.  More details coming soon!

Elementary Principal Position
We are now accepting applications for the position of elementary principal.  A job description and application are available from Colleen McCarthy at ext. 219 or email to cmccarthy@lakewoodpark.org. The process for this position will be thorough to ensure an excellent fit for the person, the job and the organization. The search committee comprised of representatives from the administration, board, parents and teachers will review the applications and choose several for initial contact and interview by the administrators. The administrators will invite the best qualified of these candidates to interview with the search committee. The search committee will recommend the best qualified of these candidates for a final interview with the school board. Interviews will begin in September and the process will continue until a successful candidate fills the position.  Please pray with us about the successful candidate for this position.

Calling All CORNY People!
We are looking for some additional volunteers to help with our Corn Booth at the Grabill Fair on September 10th, 11th, & 12th. We need people throughout the day to prepare, serve and sell sweet corn! Proceeds from this event benefit Lakewood Park athletics. If you are willing to help, please stop by the school office and sign up on the schedule. You may also contact
Missy Taulbee at 925-6165.

Library
The library is up and running and we're excited about the upcoming days!  Just some FYI:  We will be operating this year under a new policy with regard to check-outs and overdue fines.  Students will be able to check out books IF they have a clear account (no overdue books or fines).  ALL overdue books must be returned and all fines paid before new materials can be checked out.  Also, some of our book shelves are high for students to reach when they are searching for books.  If you have a sturdy step stool that you are no longer using at home, we would love to use it here in the library.
